There's something special about watching footage of Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points in a basketball game; or seeing Paul Morphy play chess and make master players crumble; or imagining that Babe Ruth hit more homeruns during several seasons than entire teams. It's as if these people were the only ones who understood how to play the game and their opposition could only watch in astonishment. Louis Armstrong was this kind of legend - the kind that transcended his field and forced the rest of us to change the way we think.
Louis birthed a dialect of music. The character of his sound and the music he played was so profound and unrepeatable that almost a century later people are still in awe. He represents the beginning of an era in American music that is still being built upon today. The Soggy Po Boys (featuring Taylor O’Donnel, Bruce Pingree, Larry Clow, and Christine Petrucci) are extremely excited and proud to honor Louis Armstrong this Saturday, Feb 7th at 7pm at The Dance Hall in Kittery, ME with a night of music and spoken word.
